An outstanding variety, with profuse blooms and upright stems, is the Quick Fire® Hydrangea, whose huge conical flower heads turn wonderful shades of deep pink, brightening fall with lots of color. They bloom late, when other shrubs are finished flowering, and they literally last for months, as the flowers turn from pristine white to shades of pinks and reds in the cooler nights. They take more sun, and they grow well in drier soil too. Panicle hydrangeas are really cold-resistant, handling zone 3 with ease. These relatives of the mophead hydrangea have none of that plant’s limitations. For that you need to look no further than the panicle hydrangeas. When you are looking for shrubs for your garden, “colorful, easy, and reliable” are always going to be the top criteria. Hardy even in zone 3, it can be grown all across the country, and its is setting gardens everywhere on fire with its beauty and ease of growth. Any ordinary garden soil that is well-drained will suit it perfectly, and some mulch will conserve moisture, although this plant is much more drought-resistant than most other hydrangeas.
